A ''trackless train'' is a train that does not require a track to operate. Trackless trains consist of a tow vehicle in addition to a series of towed cars. The majority of trackless trains are operated as passenger rides in shopping malls, at amusement parks, and at both public and private events. Trackless trains have been around since the days of horse drawn public transportation. Unlike trams, trackless trains are not rail vehicles as they do not require a track in order to operate. Instead, trackless trains operate in a manner similar to an automobile that can be steered and directed along a road. Some trackless train users such as Universal Studios refer to their vehicles as trams. Universal uses these versions of trackless trains for shuttling visitors from parking areas as well as for guided tours. In addition to this version of trackless trains, there are many other versions in operation today. The variety of trackless trains varies from small, homemade models up to manufactured versions. Cars can consist of single seat kiddie rides all the way up to bench seats arranged in a series of rows for hauling several adults. One common version of a small, children’s ride is referred to as a barrel train. Barrel trains have cars that are made from 55 gallon drums laid on their side and mounted to a trailer. A modern day barrels is a plastic 55 gallon drum (container) that has replaced the former metal version. The most popular of these styles come in blue. Smaller versions come in a translucent white plastic. The barrel is modified by creating an access space like a cockpit of a plane. Bench seats are inserted for the rider. Barrel trains are typically towed by a golf cart, All-terrain vehicle, go kart, or lawn tractor. Many of these vehicles are modified to look like a typical train steam engine. One version of a trackless barrel train uses a monster truck replica to tow the cars. Recently businesses have developed around trackless trains. Companies such as Roundhouse Trackless Trains, True American Classics, and Royal Trains now sell manufactured versions of passenger trackless trains. == See Also == * barrel * amusement park 抄文引用元・出典: フリー百科事典『 ウィキペディア(Wikipedia)』 ■ウィキペディアで「Trackless Trains」の詳細全文を読む スポンサード リンク
